Simply put, we do not face the same level of institutional constraints that many other organizations do. We are uniquely able to acquire live tissue and fluid samples from any medical institution across the United States. We also have a robust network of patient advocacy organizations that help us to connect with patients, who then have the autonomy to direct their sample to a high-impact research project (this is where you come in). Our list of affiliated research organizations is continually growing. Join us today!

Contact us directly for more information and next steps. Transparency is key, so it is important to note that we strongly believe in open collaboration and data sharing. This means that any non-proprietary findings that come from your research as a result of our partnership (i.e. the utilization of samples or clinical data) must become publicly available on an expedited schedule compared to traditional research timelines.
Once we have established a partnership, we will inform you when we have acquired the sample(s) you need (or we may already have it stored and ready to go for your use)! For fresh tissue acquisition, we will take care of all of the consent and biologistics to get the tissue and correlated clinical data to you and keep you continually informed throughout the process.

We work with a wide range of academic centers, pharmaceutical companies and biotechs. To learn more about partnership opportunities, please email us at info@rarecancer.org.

For samples shipping from the Pattern Biobank: Depending on the processing type, we provide cell counts and viability data. Representative H&E of the originating tissue, and available clinical and diagnosis information may be available upon request. In addition, matched adjacent normal tissue, PBMCs, and plasma may also be available.
For fresh samples shipped directly from a surgical or fluid procedure to a research lab, the delivery kit usually includes tumor tissue, normal tissue and blood.
-
At the Pattern Biobank, we generate a representative FFPE block from every tissue sample we receive. Depending on the processing requirements, we are able to store tissue as flash frozen chunks, cryopreserved tissue chunks (minced), or cryopreserved dissociated tumor cells.
-
We collect and store both solid tumor tissue and blood cancers.

Yes, our protocol and consent allows us to collect rare disease samples beyond cancer. Please contact us with more information about your specific disease interest so we can discuss a potential partnership.

Yes, wcgIRB and Genetic Alliance IRB oversee different areas of our work, and we follow their guidelines and standards. We place patients at the center of all of our work so therefore follow the guidelines of patient privacy laws such as HIPAA whenever possible even though we are considered a non-covered entity, which by law means we aren’t required to follow those privacy laws.
